Mission Statement
ESG promotes the incorporation of environmental, social and governance considerations into investment decisions. Such concept was developed in 2005 with the publication of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment.
ESG is pivotal to the continuous quest to achieve global sustainable development, by ensuring development meets today’s needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.
The ESG Committee aims to address the different issues that implementation of ESG criteria involves and, by doing so, assess its impact on a set of areas of law. ESG principles will inspire, if not shape, the future of law due to the importance and even imperative nature that sustainable initiatives are gaining with conglomerates around the globe. Corporations’ purposes and commercial objectives are aligning through a sustainability approach with concepts that are intimately related to law, such as corporate governance, sustainable construction, protection of indigenous communities, human capital investment, sustainable investment instruments, among others.
Embracing the collaborative spirit that distinguishes IPBA, the ESG Committee will provide an important forum for IPBA members specialized in various areas of law to exchange knowledge regarding the latest trends, regulations, practices and experiences on ESG in different jurisdictions, and expects to attract in-house counsel to IPBA for them to join these enriching discussions.
