Nobuo Miyake founded the IPBA in 1991 under the Spirit of Katsuura. Unfortunately, Mr. Miyake passed away in late 2023. You can read more about him and the establishment of the IPBA in a special book of remembrances written by IPBA members:

To honor his memory, the IPBA has established the Nobuo Miyake Fellowship Fund. Details of this Fund are as follows.
- There will be three Fellows chosen per year, vetted by the IPBA Nominating Committee.
- Winning applicants will receive a fee waiver to attend the IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference for up to two years (determined by the IPBA Nominating Committee).
All interested persons must:
- be a current IPBA member;
- have been a member for five consecutive years;
- submit a project proposal that will benefit IPBA, and be involved in executing the proposed project.
To Note
- All IPBA members may apply.
- Sitting officers may not apply, but applications from past Officers are accepted.
- Sitting Council members other than Officers may apply (JCMs, ALCMs, RCs, Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs).
