Mission Statement
Since the birth of artificial intelligence in the 1940s, it has experienced a tortuous course of development. It has developed from the golden age, the low stage and the prosperous period to the real spring of science and technology. The year of 2015 witnessed the breakthrough of artificial intelligence. Google has opened Tensor Flow, a second-generation machine learning platform that uses large amounts of data to directly train computers to complete tasks, and Cambridge University has established an artificial intelligence Institute. In 2023, the big model of artificial intelligence has set off a new wave of development of artificial intelligence industry in the world, and has become a new focus of global technological competition and a new opportunity to reconstruct the global economic pattern. It has become an inevitable trend for the modern industrial system to move towards high-end development by taking the deep integration of artificial intelligence and manufacturing industry as the main line, enabling key industrial systems with large model capabilities, and promoting industrial digitalization to intelligent upgrading.
The development of AI is surging, which has a far-reaching impact on various industries. Legal artificial intelligence can assist in analyzing and predicting the development of cases, providing precedents for similar cases, and replacing manual processing of repetitive work, which can greatly improve work efficiency. Since the establishment in April 1991 at an organizing conference held in Tokyo attended by more than 500 lawyers from countries within the Asia-Pacific Region. Now, it has grown to become the preeminent legal association in this Region, with membership drawn from throughout the world, and currently has over 1,500 members from over 65 jurisdictions worldwide. IPBA aims to provide a platform for members of the Association to exchange and discuss legal, business and policy issues in the Asia-Pacific region. In the context of the times, the establishment of AI committee is not waiting for us. The Annual Meeting & Conference in Tokyo 2024 discussed AI-related topics in depth, which aroused tremendous repercussions and resonance, such as business lawyers and ChatGPT, AI propelling dispute resolution into new areas, and AI governance and risk.
AI Committee will devote itself to using AI to improve lawyers' legal service ability, strengthen communication and exchange, and study relevant frontier legal issues.
