The IPBA accepts members from any country in the world.
We realize that as international lawyers, you may live in one country but are licensed there and/or in other jurisdictions. We consider the country in which you live to be your "country", and the country or countries in which you are licensed to be your "jurisdiction(s)".
Any jurisdiction with 25 or more members is eligible to elect a leader known as a Jurisdictional Council Member (JCM), who is in charge of membership issues for that jurisdiction. Currently, the following jurisdictions have a JCM:
Australia | Canada | China | France |
Germany | Hong Kong | India | Indonesia |
Japan | Korea | Malaysia | New Zealand |
Pakistan | The Philippines | Singapore | Switzerland |
Taiwan | Thailand | United Kingdom | United States |
Vietnam |
An At-Large Council Member is elected either to support the JCM, or to support IPBA members in a jurisdiction or region without a leader. The following jurisdictions or regions have an At-Large Council Member:
China | Europe | India |
Latin America | Osaka | USA |
In addition, Regional Coordinators are recommended for appointment by the IPBA President to support and promote membership in a larger geographical area. The following regions have Regional Coordinators:
Australasia & SW Pacific Islands | East Asia | Hawaii & N Pacific Islands |
Middle East | SE Asia |
Contact the local or regional representative if you have any questions about IPBA members, or want to get involved in IPBA activities in that area!

Welcome to the Jurisdictional page for the United States.
As the Jurisdictional Council Member for the United States, it’s my job to encourage all of you to get and stay involved in IPBA activities.
Members from the United States play an important role in the IPBA and serve on many committees.
We welcome you to join and to get involved. I am proud to have been a member of the IPBA for many years, and I consider the IPBA vital to my practice of international trade law in Washington, DC (and a lot of fun).
We can pair new members with long term members who can provide ideas on getting involved and seizing the benefits of IPBA membership.
The key step is to join a Committee and get involved in the Committee activities, which include everything from preparing panels for the Annual Conferences (next up, Singapore in 2019) or the mid-year meeting (next up, Thailand),
or any number of regional conferences (like our recent event in Los Angeles).
If you have any questions about how to get more involved in the IPBA and how to make the most of your membership, please let me know.
We need you to be actively engaged. We need each of you to recruit a new member from the United States, to help with regional events (send me any ideas for topics, areas of your expertise, what you would like to speak on, which committees are of interest).
