Date: March 7-10, 2023
Venue: Dubai, UAE
Special Announcement as of January 18, 2022
As you know, the IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference was rescheduled to be held in Dubai 21-24 March 2022 after IPBA President-Elect Richard Briggs generously offered to switch years with the Tokyo Conference, now scheduled to be held in the first quarter of 2023. The switch was the best option at the time, with Dubai open to international travellers and events and business conducted as usual.
Just days after this decision was made and ratified by the Officers, the IPBA Council, and the general members, the Omicron variant emerged. The highly contagious nature of this variant along with its unknown effects to health caused governments around the world to once again lock down, close borders to foreign travelers, and impose sometimes lengthy quarantines on those entering the country. This situation is expected to continue into the foreseeable future.
While we all yearn for in-person events, the host committee for IPBA Dubai 2022 considered the viability of holding a safe and successful international conference under these circumstances. Frankly speaking, registrations are not sufficient at this stage to proceed with planning for a fully viable onsite Conference.
The results of discussion among IPBA Committee Leadership in charge of planning the Conference sessions, the IPBA Officers, and the Dubai Host Committee came to the same conclusion: to postpone the Annual Conference in Dubai until March 2023.
The Annual Meeting and Conference then will be held in Tokyo 2024, and the Annual Meeting and Conference in Chicago (proposed) will be proposed for 2025.
This postponement requires yet another change to the leadership succession of the President, President-Elect, and Vice-President to be voted on by IPBA members. Details of the proposed changes and method of voting will be reported in the coming days.
The Annual General Meeting 2022 will be held as scheduled on March 24th (the originally scheduled time might change) online via Zoom. Registration information will be sent along with the Officer succession proposal noted above.
We thank those of you who have already registered for the conference. By now you should have received a message from IPBA President-Elect Richard Briggs regarding refunds or application of payments to the Conference in 2023. The exact dates will be announced as soon as possible, and registration will be open at that time. Please contact the conference organizing team (IPBADubai2022@ipba.org) or the IPBA Secretariat (email@example.com) with any questions.
Please note that there are currently no plans for a virtual conference this year, but we plan to frequently offer individual webinars and online get-togethers, and we hope to be able to have a smaller onsite, in-person event later this year.
Thank you for your continued support of the IPBA through these unpredictable times!
