Date: December 13, 2018 New Delhi
Venue: New Delhi, India
In collaboration with the Law Society of England and Wales, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and its Women Business Lawyers Committee is pleased to invite you to a “Women in Leadership in Law Roundtable” to be held at the offices of Trilegal at DLF South Court, Saket, New Delhi.
This event will last approximately two hours.
2019 will mark the centenary of the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, which paved the way for women in the United Kingdom to become lawyers for the first time. 2019 will also be the 40-year anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention of the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). In view of such significant milestones the Law Society of England and Wales has committed, through its International Women and the Law programme, to work towards achieving gender equality in the legal sector. To further this goal, the Law Society has been conducting roundtables around the world to support dialogue, a clear commitment, and tangible actions to achieve full gender equality.
The current president of the Law Society, Christina Blacklaws, will be in Delhi in December and has generously offered to facilitate a roundtable for local women lawyers. Join Christina to discuss the topic of “Creating strategies to increase the number of women in leadership to achieve greater gender equality in the legal sector”.
These roundtables will serve to brainstorm for strategies that tackle gender inequality and to increase the number of women in leadership positions in the legal sector. If you are interested in participating on December 13, please complete and return the attached registration form. In order to provide a space for everyone to be heard, the number of participants will be limited to approximately 15. If the demand is greater, a second Roundtable will be held in February. Please feel free to forward this invitation to other women lawyers in Delhi who might be interested in this event.
