Greetings from the IPBA!
Did you know that the month of March used to be the first month of the calendar year, and the year spanned only 10 months? January and February were added in order to make one year align with the seasons. Currently, it is the first month of spring in the northern hemisphere, and the first month of autumn in the southern hemisphere. During the change of season, there is a tendency to catch a cold or the flu. We wish you good health during this transitional period!
The first quarter of 2016 was hectic for the IPBA, in preparation for the Annual Meeting and Conference in Kuala Lumpur. We hope you will join us April 13-16 in Malaysia's capital city! The last time the IPBA had an annual conference there was in 1997, and during the span of two decades Kuala Lumpur has transformed into a global player with great social and economic significance. It is an ideal platform for us now, and the conference theme of "Diverse Challenges, Global Solutions" has never been more appropriate as the world continues to become increasingly intertwined socially and culturally, as well as in the legal arena.
This concept segues into the theme of our annual conference in Auckland, 2017: "Connectivity and Convergence". If you can't make it to Kuala Lumpur, we hope to see you in Auckland. Or better yet: we hope to see you at both!

The deadline for payment of membership dues for 2016 is March 31st, today!
Your membership dues must be paid for 2016 in order to take advantage of the cheaper conference registration rate.
Contact the IPBA Secretariat if you have any questions about your membership status.
We also take this opportunity to remind you that data for the printed version of our Membership Directory will be compiled in May/June, so if you have any changes in your contact information be sure to update your profile on the IPBA web site. (The online directory is available to you 24/7 in the Member Only section of the web site.)

IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference in Kuala Lumpur

Diverse Challenges, Global Solutions
Less than two weeks from now, the 26th Annual Meeting and Conference in Kuala Lumpur kicks off with three fabulous receptions, shown below. It's a great chance to relax and see old friends and meet new ones prior to the "business" side of the conference. Social events are rounded off with the Gala Dinner and After Party on April 14th, and the Farewell Party on April 15th.

While in Kuala Lumpur, be sure to join this workshop organized by the IPBA's Legal Development and Training Committee, led by Chair Varya Simpson, on Tuesday, April 12, 2:30-6:30.

The IPBA Secretariat is available Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 6:00PM Japan time, except for national holidays.
Please note that the main IPBA Secretariat staff, Rhonda Lundin and Yukiko Okazaki, will be away from the office the week of April 11th to attend the Annual Meeting and Conference in Kuala Lumpur. Our part-time staff, Aki Davis, will be able to take phone calls most mornings, but the best way to communicate with us during this week is by e-mail:
