Dear [[first_name]] [[last_name]] Esq.,

Kia Ora from the IPBA!

We are getting in the spirit for our Annual Meeting and Conference in Auckland, New Zealand, which takes place next week. How can one not be excited to visit the land of kiwis (the fruit, and the bird), All Blacks and "short blacks" (the rugby team, and a way to order coffee), adventurers Sir Edmund Hillary and Frodo (a New Zealander and one of two people who first reached the summit of Mt. Everest, and a Hobbit of the Shire), and the nonpareil IPBA President-Elect who is making the conference happen: Denis McNamara? Denis and the host committee members are busy with final preparations to provide a great experience to all 700+ attendees and accompanying persons. All of us at the IPBA look forward to welcoming you to Auckland!

If you can't join us this year in Auckland, IPBA's very active and enthusiastic members in Vietnam, Switzerland, Germany, Korea, the UK, and Malaysia are planning other events throughout the year. See the listing below for details.

IPBA Committee News

The wide variety programs planned for the Auckland conference next week is a testament to the hot topics and complex issues IPBA committee members wrestle with in their practices. Our members’ willingness to share their expertise is certainly one of the IPBA’s greatest assets. One of our plenaries demonstrates not only this sharing but also our members’ interest in and connection to diverse practices. In Friday’s plenary, “Filling the gap, with or without TPP, issues of Asian trade, investment, politics and security remain,” we will have speakers from seven countries, representing multiple IPBA committees, including the Cross-Border Investment Committee and the International Trade Committee. Their practices cover diverse areas such as aviation, capital markets, trade and development, arbitration and competition law. The pressing topic of TPP’s future and effects on trading relationships in Asia highlights that modern developments require diverse areas of expertise and that the IPBA’s intellectual diversity is a great asset in serving clients navigating these complex developments.

The Committee News section will be back after Auckland with continued updates on the intriguing work of our committees!

27th IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference in Auckland:
Connectivity & Convergence
April 6-9, 2017

Only FIVE days to go until the first day of the conference!

  • If you have any questions about your conference registration or accommodation, please be sure to contact the conference organizer directly!
  • All delegates were sent an e-mail with a link to the conference app, available to use on most handheld devices. If you have not received the information yet, contact the conference organizer.
  • The weather report for Auckland indicates comfortable autumn temperatures, with highs in the lower 20s and lows in the 15° to 19° range. It's supposed to rain until next Thursday, but most activities of the conference are held in the SkyCity Convention Centre so there's no need to go outside.
  • We wish you safe travels to Auckland!

During the Conference, Rhonda Lundin and Yukiko Okazaki of the IPBA Secretariat will be womaning (as opposed to "manning", as we are both women) the IPBA booth in the exhibition area. Please stop by to see us!

This means that we will be away from the office in Tokyo April 3rd-11th, and may not be able to respond to your e-mails and phone calls quickly. Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
