Some of you may have received the Eye on IPBA August issue with an error in the time of the Special General Meeting (below). Please refer to this version of the Eye on IPBA August issue instead. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Dear [[first_name]] [[last_name]] Esq.,
August greetings from the IPBA!
Did you know that the word "august" (with the accent on the last syllable: auGUST) in English means "impressive", "esteemed", "honorable"? It can be said that the IPBA is an august association, as its reputation growns in the Asia-Pacific Region and beyond. We are approached more often these days to collaborate with other legal associations on a global as well as local scale. The IPBA Officers consider seriously and thoroughly every one of these invitations to work together. You'll hear more about these efforts in the months to come.
We are gearing up for our Mid-Year Council Meeting and Regional Conference in Brussels, Belgium. The Council will meet over the course of three days to report on their areas of responsibility: Membership; Publications; Programs; Committees; Web Site; Annual Conferences; Finances; and more. Also to be discussed are ways to keep the IPBA moving forward, through new initiatives from our active members. We count on you, our august members, to help keep the IPBA healthy and thriving!

New Zealand: Black Sand, Kiwis and the City of Sails
There’s more to know about the IPBA 2017 host nation
Formed by volcanic activity in the Pacific Ocean 500 million years ago, New Zealand was the last habitable land mass to be settled by humankind. Today, its 185 billion USD trade-driven economy comprises partners throughout the pacific and the world.
At the centre of this trade is Auckland, New Zealand’s commercial hub and the host city for the 2017 Inter-Pacific Bar Association Conference. For most, the IPBA Annual Meeting and Conference is an opportunity to build connections with lawyers from around the Pacific, but for some it’s also an unmissable chance to explore a new destination.
Home to approximately 1.4 million people, Auckland is a vibrant, cultured and scenic harbour city. Its waterfront precinct, ‘The Viaduct’, trendy strip ‘Ponsonby’ and diverse inner city all offer world class dining, shopping, and entertainment. Yet within only twenty kilometres of the city centre lie over 45 extinct volcanoes.
Composed of two distinct islands, the ‘North’ and ‘South’, New Zealand’s landscape is very diverse and in many places still untouched. It ranges from alpine wilderness to lakes, fiords, volcanoes, and mountain ranges– a unique mix which is what really sets New Zealand apart.
Affectionately known as ‘Kiwi’s’, the locals are renowned for their laid-back, friendly personas and outdoor oriented lifestyle. 2017 will be the second year the IPBA has held its Annual Conference and Meeting in Auckland, with the first being held in 1990, 27 years previous.
The 2017 Inter-Pacific Bar Association Annual Meeting and Conference offers tours in and around Auckland including Sailing, Golf, Hobbiton Movie Set, Vineyards and Rainforest and Beach experiences. For more information about Auckland and the IPBA excursions and tours, visit www.ipba2017.com
